Looking for a great dessert place in Los Angeles? Located in beautiful Woodland Hills, CA, Carmela Ice Cream founders believe in three concepts: 1) Create an excellent product 2) provide an exceptional customer experience and 3) have fun.
Pretty simple, if you ask me.
Founded in 2007, the Carmela family began making ice cream in a pizza shop and selling their ice cream at local farmer’s market. In 2011, they opened their first brick and mortar shop in Pasadena, California.
When you visit the Woodland Hills shop, you immediately notice how everything is clearly labeled. All the ice cream is made from scratch from the farm in Pasadena. Patrons are able to try any and all flavors (which I love!). After trying every single flavor, I decided on getting two things: an ice cream sandwich and a double scoop on the side (all in the name of GLG!).
The ice cream sandwich is made from homemade cookies. I got one chocolate cookie (which had a hint of salt) and the other side of my cookie was their chocolate chip cookie (which was softer than the chocolate cookie). For my ice cream inside the cookie, I chose the honey lavender. The honey lavender is very fresh and taste clean, like it cleansed my pallet. There wasn’t anything too overwhelming about the flavor. I will say that the cookie sandwich is a little difficult to eat because once you bite into one side, it all seemed to ooze out the other side-so this may be better to eat in a cup.
The green tea ice was just as it’s advertised. Green Tea. I love a green tea ice cream and can eat it all day.
The earl gray had a pretty tea-like taste to it so if you like tea, this is right up your alley. If not, maybe try something else.
All in all, Carmela is a great dessert place to grab some ice cream especially if you are nearby at the Topanga Mall or The Village. Stop in and you surely won’t be disappointed!
